The Seabiscuit Heritage Foundation (SHF) is a public benefit non-profit California corporation started by people dedicated to telling the story of Seabiscuit and his era through preserving the Northern California ranch where the champion racehorse lived out his life.

Donations
SHF gratefully accepts donations to support on going tours of the ranch, restoration of historic buildings, protection of the historic ranch setting, and establishing new programs. We are a small organization undertaking a large, very complex project, saving Seabiscuit's home. We appreciate your help.

PROJECTS

€ Seabiscuit Heritage District

The primary threat to historic Ridgewood Ranch is deterioration of sites due to weather and aging, combined with inadequate finances for maintenance and rehabilitation. Urgent attention is necessary to preserve these priceless historic structures. Addressing these needs, the SHF in conjunction with the National Trust for Historic Preservation is completing a Core Historic Structures Report with a architectural historian. This Report will further assess and identify the Seabiscuit Heritage District and priorities for restoration and preservation. In addition, we are negotiating a long-term lease of the Seabiscuit Heritage District with the ranch owners. With these in place, we can then work with the ranch owner to have the Seabiscuit Heritage District placed on the National Historic Register and receive permanent preservation status. In order to support the implementation of these restoration and preservation goals, we are establishing a permanently restricted Seabiscuit Heritage District Endowment Fund to create a long term guaranteed funding base to support SHF for the ongoing operational needs of the Seabiscuit Heritage District. Your contributions to this endowment fund would be greatly appreciated.

€ Conservation Easement

The 5,000-acre Ridgewood Ranch has a beautiful natural setting that surrounds the Seabiscuit Heritage District. There are two permanent conservation easements that strictly limit development on the ranch. However, these easements protect just half of the ranch. We are working with the ranch’s owners to place additional permanent conservation easements to protect the remaining half of the ranch. Saving Seabiscuit's historic home for the public to enjoy and permanently protecting the Ranch's natural environment of fish streams, wildlife habitat, oak woodlands, redwood groves, productive forests, and farm land is one of the main goals of SHF.

€ Public Access

A permanently restricted Public Access Endowment Fund has been established by SHF from a generous donation of the ranch owners that benefits public access to the conserved areas of the ranch. If you wish to further contribute to this endowment fund, that would be greatly appreciated.
